Media in Pakistan: Between radicalisation and democratisation in an unfolding conflict, 2009

Based on reports of a deteriorating security situation for journalists in large parts of Pakistan, this report is the outcome of mission carried out by IMS in January 2009 to assess the media situation and to identify possible partners. The conclusions constitute the foundation for IMS’s plans for future projects and cooperation with Pakistan media workers and institutions.

This report is a result of the recommendations set furth in the IMS publication: "Media in sudan at a crossroads" (2007), which called for more cooperation and coordination among media actors in Sudan in order to strengthen the impact of activities and best use of resources for media development. The findings are based on interviews, surveys and focus group interviews and were presented to Sudanese media representatives in roundtable meetings in Juba and Khartoum in spring 2009.
