Henning Camre, Chairman of the IMS-founded Screen Institute Beirut was presented with the prestigious Cultural Meeting for Lebanon-International Dialogue award this month

The award honours an individual who has made a special contribution to further Lebanese-international dialogue and cooperation within the field of art, religion and culture.

Impressive first year

Henning Camre, who has enjoyed much acclaim as the founder of the Danish Institute of Film, describes the award as proof of how far Screen Institute Beirut (SIB) has come in making an impression on Lebanon’s cultural environment in its first short year of existence. The Institute works to ensure the production and distribution of high quality documentary films for both national and regional audiences and promotes collaboration between filmmakers in the Arab region and Denmark.

- We are very pleased with the positive response Screen Institute Beirut has received from people in the Arab region, says Henning Camre.

 - Usually it takes time for word to spread about new institutions such as ours, but in fact we are quite exceptional in the region in what we offer. Also, the Institute has led to several examples of cross-country cooperation, he adds.

The award was presented by Professor Georges Torbay of the Cultural Houses in Lebanon in the presence of representatives from more than 40 cultural institutions around Lebanon.

- SIB is important to the Lebanese cultural environment because it breaks isolation and nurtures important contacts internationally. This award can help open doors, says Henning Camre.
