Organised in collaboration between International Media Support and University of Copenhagen, "Covering the Arab Spring" will be looking at the roles of different types of media in the political unrests in the Arab region and investigate how the media portrayed the events.
Acting both as a catalyst and a tool during the protests, the media helped to keep people informed about events both nationally and internationally.
As told many times by the media themselves, social media was used for mobilisation, organisation and information, while conventional media played an important part in informing broader national and international publics about events.
At the conference scholars from a broad range of academic disciplines will be able to share their analyses of these topics, while connecting research on media in the Middle East and the perception of Islam in Europe.
"Covering the Arab Spring" takes place at the University of Copenhagen from 1-2 September and is organised by International Media Support, The Centre for European Islamic Thought, The New Islamic Public Sphere Programme at Copenhagen University and Forum for Islam Research.
