Twinning

IMS twinning activities within the Media Cooperation Programme for the Arab World and Iran refer to partnerships established between journalists or media institutions in Denmark and the Arab region. A partnership should be focused on practical collaboration between media professionals. Through twinning, IMS aims to mutually strengthen the knowledge about Arab and Danish societies among media and their audiences, and to foster networks between media practitioners across the borders.

Debating the role of women

Syrian film docmentarist Diana El-Jeiroudi is back in Denmark to present her latest documentary: "Dolls" at a screening on Saturday 15 November in Cinemateket in Copenhagen. IMS has a small share in "Dolls" as it formed the center of a collaboration between Danish Final Cut Production and Diana El-Jeiroudi's own production company Proaction, which was brokered and funded by IMS

The screening of "Dolls", which takes place at 3 PM in Cinemateket, will be followed by a debate under the theme: "Modernity, Democracy and Women in the Middle East", where Diana El-Jeiroudi will sit on a panel with Roksareh Ghaemmaghami (Iran) and Asmaa Abdol-Hamid (Denmark). The debate will be moderated by Mona Eltahawy (USA).

"Dolls" presents a double portrait; one portrait concerns a doll named "Fulla" which was launched in the Arab world some years ago as a counter-measure or alternative to the American-produced "Barbie". The other portrait concerns a young woman, manal, who wrestles with her daily routines as a homemaker and the expectations of her husband and familiy - and the dream of working outside her home. The two portraits run in parallel throughout the film, and so "Dolls" is reflecting on the universal struggles of women to reconcile family and a professional career.

Two years ago, IMS brokered a collaboration between Diana El-Jeiroudi/Proaction and the Danish company Final Cut Production in a promotional effort at the Amsterdam Film Festival to raise sufficient funds to finalize "Dolls" .

During her stay, Diana El-Jeiroudi is also invited to sit on the jury of the Amnesty Award, which will be announced during the Copenhagen Film Festival, CPH:DOX.
