The event will feature several veteran journalists such as former BBC investigative journalist Tim Sebastian and media practitioners from around the world as keynote speakers to share their experience with participants.
The Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) network supported by IMS, will use the conference to launch its specialised manual "Story-based Inquiry: A manual for Investigative journalists" developed together with UNESCO to guide reporters in the Arab region on how to practice investigative journalism. The manual is the first of its kind developed for the Arab region combining the best international standards with local specifications.
- Investigative journalism is largely absent in Arab Media culture, says Rana Sabbah-Gargour, Executive Director of ARIJ from her office in Amman.
- This is the first time a manual for investigative journalism specifically tailored for the Arab region has been produced with a concrete methodology and strategy of how to bulletproof your findings, computerfile and manage your data. And for the first time it will be presented to and discussed amongst chief editors and journalists from 11 Arab countries.
Since ARIJ was established by IMS and the Danish Association of Investigative Journalists (FUJ) in Amman in 2005, ARIJ has supported more than 62 investigative reports in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt, with several others under way in Iraq, Palestine, Yemen and Bahrain.
