How can the new network community benefit freedom of speech?

Under the title: Opportunities and threats for press freedom and democratization, IMS is hosting a conference in Copenhagen 15-16 September to seek answers as to whether and how ICTs and networked communications environments may promote freedom of speech and press freedom around the world

The conference is bringing together ITC experts and civil society organisations as well as media practitioners engaged in press freedom and freedom of expression in order to facilitate a meeting between the different fields of expertise in the hope to promote cross-fertilazation across professional boundaries.

During the two days, the paticipants will test some of the many new technologies available, in order to capture the moment and disseminate it in real-time. The speakers will share their experiences and concerns over the new avenues of communication, and the conference will discuss the opportunities and challenges involved.

The conference, which is hosted and organised by IMS with support from OSI, Telia and Nokia, is for invitees only. However, parts of the conference will be streamed on the Internet through Bambuser.com during the time of the conference. Furthermore a conference report will be issued and published by IMS in the weeks after the conference.
