International media and develop-ment specialist Lars Bestle to join IMS as Director of Programme Implementation as of 15 August
Lars Bestle will be responsible for streamlining monitoring and evaluation of IMS programmes and will lead the expansion of digital communication platforms and internet freedom in IMS partner countries. He will also oversee IMS programmes in Asia and direct innovative efforts to collaborate with international partners in the region.
International media and development specialist Lars Bestle brings to IMS a wealth of experience in strategic coordination between international organisations and a deep understanding of media difficulties in countries of conflict and democratic transition. He has worked with media development for over ten years, specialising in independent media and democratisation as regional policy advisor and specialist for UNDP's Asia-Pacific centre in Bangkok.
Working with 25 country offices, Lars Bestle has led initiatives with both government and civil society partners to improve communication and public access to information in the Asia-Pacific region by promoting programmes on e-governance, inclusion of indigenous voices in the media and creative developments in new and independent media.
