The publication is a practical handbook which focuses on the implementation of the European Convention standards by Ukrainian courts and judges.
The handbook titled “Article 10 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms: Ukrainian legislation and court practice” was presented at an official launch event in Kyiv in June attended by judges, lawyers and journalists. The book has been published under the auspices of the IMS-supported Media Law Institute and is written by Vasyl Paliyuk, a Ukrainian judge who is renowned for his liberal views and a pioneer in the implementation of the Council of Europe standards in the Ukrainian court practice.
Yuriy Zaitsev, Government representative for relations with the European Court of Human Rights, Oleksandr Pavlyuchenko, Director of the Information Bureau of the Council of Europe in Ukraine, and Taras Shevchenko, Director of the Media Law Institute, shared their positive reviews of the book at the launch. They underlined the importance of the fact that the publication was developed by a judge-practitioner, the first one in Ukraine to refer to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in a court ruling.
The book will be disseminated to the Ukrainian courts of all levels. The publication was produced within the framework of the IMS Media & Democracy Programme for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus.
