IMS and COP15

In connection with the global UN meeting on climate change, the COP15 in Copenhagen from 6-18 December 2009, IMS engaged in collaboration with other international media development, advocacy and support organisations to raise awareness about the dangers facing environment journalists in countries across the world.

Vote for the world's best climate change story

Through emails, mobile text messages and social networks, the global public is invited to cast their votes in search of the best climate change story of the year. The winner will be announced and awarded at an official ceremony on 14 December in Copenhagen

 

450 stories entered the Earth Journalism Awards competition representing more than 100 countries around the world. Following careful selection through a process involving over 100 media and climate change experts, it is now down to 15 finalists from 10 countries to compete for the Global Public Award 2009. All 15 finalists will be joining COP15 in Copenhagen and the Awards ceremony at the DR Concert Hall on 14 December.

Finalists stories include: a compelling account from Pakistan of how a small coastal community is responding to the multiple challenges that climate change is already posing them; a multi-media investigation on the use and effects of fire in the Amazon; and a business report from East Africa on how Kenyan companies are missing out on the growing global carbon credits market. 

IMS is a partner to the Earth Journalism Awards and proud to support all finalists inthe competition for the global award.
