Building for the future; assessment of Nepal's media and recommendations for the future; May 2008

17.06.2008

Following the Jana Andolan (People's Movement) of April 2006 in which the government of King Gyanendra was forced to step down, the media environment in Nepal has undergone significant changes. Still, challenges lie ahead such as curbing the growing violence against media practitioners. This report assesses developments in the media sector of Nepal since the regime change. The assessment is based on findings and recommendations from the fourth visit of the 'International Press Freedom and Freedom of Expression Mission to Nepal', which took place in January 2008.
