This report provides a political analysis based on an assessment mission to South Kivu, Congo conducted during September 2003. The report analyses the role played by the radio in the regional peace process in South Kivu. As one of the few independent media outlets in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Radio Maendeleo, a local community radio station based in the town of Bukavu, the provincial capital of the South Kivu province, has broadcast content of political and development nature for the past nine years.
